Antifoaming : suppresses foam during manufacturing or reduces the tendency of finished products to generate foam 

Chelating agent (=complexing / sequestering agent) : is a compound that forms stable complexes with metal ions

Denaturant : renders cosmetics unpalatable, mostly added to cosmetics containing ethyl alcohol 

Depilatory : removes unwanted body hair 

Emollient : softens and smooths the skin 

Emulsifier : promotes the formation of intimate mixtures of non-miscible liquids by altering the interfacial tension 

Exfoliant : removes dead skin cells from the surface of the skin, in order to improve the appearance 

Glazing agent : provides shiny appearance or protective coating to foods 

Humectant : holds and retains moisture 

Moisturizer : is any substance or mixtures of chemical agents specially designed to make the extrenal layers of the skin or epidermis softer and more pliable, by increasing its hydration or water content

Ointment : a thick oily substance, usually containing medicine, which is put on the skin where it is sore or where there is an injury, in order to cure it

Opacifying : reduces transparency or translucency of cosmetics 

Plasticizer : softens and makes supple another substance that otherwise could not be easily deformed, spread or worked out 

Smoothing : seeks to achieve an even skin surface by decreasing roughness or irregularities

Solubiliser : to make (a substance such as a fat or lipid) soluble or more soluble, especially in water, by the action of a detergent or other agent

Solvent : dissolves other substances 

Surfactant : lowers the surface tension of cosmetics as well as aids the even distribution of the product when used
